Streetparade 2024

It's Street Parade time in Zurich and the weather and the mood of the ravers couldn't be better. With daughter Jana and friend Maja, we make our way to the lakeside promenade - with 121 balloons in tow!  But the wind plays its game with the balloons and twists the ribbons into big knots. No matter.

The plan would have been to cross the Bellevue Bridge with the balloon bunches - so that they glow conspicuously when aerial photos are taken from the helicopters. But because the ravers are as happy as children, we give away all the Hi-Fish balloons before we arrive at Bürkliplatz.

The ravers come to Lake Zurich from all over the world - but most of them are probably from Italy. The atmosphere is great and we meet lots of fun and friendly people. Swarms of Hi-Fish balloons form rapidly, which makes us very excited.

At Bürkliplatz, it gets really tight in the crowd. We meet an Indian couple - they say that such a crowd is normal and commonplace in Bombay. They find it very nice in Zurich and find us Zurich locals very friendly.

A style expert from the Blick newspaper reports in advance on what is ‘in’ and ‘out’ at this year's Street Parade. So, cowboy boots are out - well, a stupid idea in the heat anyway; and she also recommends the Swiftie look for us women - what a horror. For men, we see that the topless trend has been going on for years.
